Favorites from Harry Potter

by Susanna Marie
This is a list of my favorite boys' names from the Harry Potter series. J. K. Rowling did an amazing job of naming her characters and many of these names are great, usable names.
Boys:
1. Alastor- This is one of my favorite boys' names with a great character association. It means "avenger" in Greek and it is currently not in the top 1000 for 2015.
2. Aberforth- this name has an unknown meaning, but I think it is a really cool name. It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2015.
3. Fred- Fred and George are my favorite characters from this series. It is a short form of a few possible names with several possible meanings: "peaceful ruler", "elf" and "counsel", "strength", or "will, desire". It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2015.
4. George- It means "farmer, earthworker" in Greek and it is currently ranked 136 in 2015.
5. Ollivander- It is a real surname and there are several possibilities for the meaning. This name could be a great alternative for Oliver. It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2015.
6. Pius- It means "Pious, dutiful" in Latin and this name is one I have liked for a long time. It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2015.
7. Remus- In Roman legend Remus and Romulus were the founders of Rome and it has an unknown meaning. It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2015.
8. Viktor- It is a form of Victor meaning "victor, conqueror" in Latin and it is currently not in the top 1000 for 2015.
9. Argus- I have a soft spot for the name Gus so I really like this name even though the character isn't the best. I see his character as more quirky and grumpy than bad, though. It means "glistening, shining" in Greek and it is currently not in the top 1000 for 2015.
10. Errol- This name has an unknown meaning, but I really love it. It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2015.
Who's your favorite male character from Harry Potter?

    1. Ollivander would be a bold choice, but it also sounds like names that popular now like Alexander and Oliver. Thank you for commenting!
