Interesting/Uncommon Baby Names Through the Years: 1880

(This is a list of baby names I found on the top 1000 of the social security baby names' list. These names are names that I think are uncommon, unheard of or are ready for a comeback, and I think would be interesting to see on a baby today. All name meanings were found on behindthename.com.)

1. Hyrum- number 984 in 1880, variant of Hiram, could mean "exalted brother" and it is currently not in the top 1000 of 2014.
2. Ashby- number 918 in 1880, it may be a surname name, and it is currently not in the top 1000 of 2014.
3. Willian- number 906 in 1880, unknown meaning, and it is currently not in the top 1000 of 2014.
4. Obed- number 883 in 1880, means "servant, worshipper" and it is a biblical name. It is currently not in the top 1000 of 2014.
5. Marcellus- number 591 in 1880, it is a diminutive of Marcus derived from the Roman god Mars, which means "male". It is currently not in the top 1000 of 2014.
6. Thaddeus-number 561 in 1880, it may have come from a word meaning "heart" or possibly it is an Aramaic form of a Greek name such as Theodore meaning "gift of God". Thaddaeus was one of the twelve apostles in the Bible. It is currently ranked at 732 in 2014.
7. Evert- number 543 in 1880, it is a German form of Everard meaning "brave boar". It is currently not in the top 1000 of 2014.
8. Willam- number 525 in 1880, it is currently not in the top 1000 of 2014.
9. Foster- number 448 in 1880, it is a surname name with several possible origins: 1) variant of Forester- keeper of the forest 2) occupational name for a scissor maker 3) occupational name for a woodworker or 4) nickname given to a foster-child or a foster-parent. It is currently ranked at 993 in 2014.
10. Leander- number 435 in 1880, Latinized version of the Greek name Leandros meaning "lion" and "man". It is currently not in the top 1000 of 2014.
11. Harris- number 411 in 1880, it is a surname name derived from the given name Harry, which is a diminutive of Henry and Harold meaning "power, leader, ruler or home ruler". It is currently not in the top 1000 of 2014.
12. Erastus- number 394 in 1880, Latinized form of the Greek name Erastos meaning "beloved". It is currently not in the top 1000 of 2014.
13. Wilfred- number 380 in 1880, means "desiring peace" and it is currently not in the top 1000.

    I love this list so much!! My favorites are Ashby, Thaddeus, Foster, Erastus, and Abner. I am dying over Abner right now.

Boys Names that end in S: Part 2

In this post, I am going to talk about baby boy names that end in s and my obsession with them. I will be ranking these names on a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being a name I would love to use on my child and 1 being a name I would never use on my child.
