 (This is a list of baby names I found on the top 1000 of the social security baby names' list. These names are names that I think are uncommon, unheard of or are ready for a comeback, and I think would be interesting to see on a baby today. All name meanings were found on behindthename.com.)

1. Hermina- number 951 in 1920, it is a feminine form of Herman meaning "army man". It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.
2. Lavera- number 945 in 1920, possibly a combination of the prefix La and the name Vera meaning "faith" in Russian and can be associated with the Latin word verus "true". It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.
3. Lilia- number 934 in 1920, it is a variant of Liliya, which is a cognate of Lily. It is currently ranked 925 in 2014.
4. Clarabelle- number 895 in 1920, it is a variant of Claribel, which is a combination of Clara meaning "clear, bright, famous" and the suffix bel. Belle means "beautiful" in French. It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.
5. Retha- number 510 in 1920, it is a short form of Margaretha, which is a form of Margaret meaning "pearl". It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.
6. Marietta- number 438 in 1920, it is a diminutive of Maria, which is a form of Mary possibly meaning "sea of bitterness", "rebelliousness", "wished for child", "beloved" and/or "love". It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.
7. Alvina- number 418 in 1920, it is a feminine form of Alvin possibly meaning "elf", "friend", "noble" and "old". It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.
8. Carmella- number 304 in 1920, it is a form of Carmel meaning "garden". It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.
9. Fay- number 250 in 1920, it means "fairy" and it is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.
10. Fern- number 170 in 1920, it is the name of a plant and it is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.
11. Geneva- number 106 in 1920, it is possibly a shortened form of Genevieve possibly meaning "tribe woman". It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.

My Favorite Names

Girls: 1. Briley- I have loved this name for several years. Over the years, my top ten girls' names have changed a lot but Briley has always been number one. I think I love it because it is not common, but it sounds familiar, which is the perfect combination to me. 2. Lavender- I love this name because it sounds feminine without sounding too girly, it is not common and my favorite color is purple. My only hesitation with the name is that it is maybe a little too out there for me. 3. Jane- This name is simple and beautiful and has a wonderful meaning.
