 (This is a list of baby names I found on the top 1000 of the social security baby names' list. These names are names that I think are uncommon, unheard of or are ready for a comeback, and I think would be interesting to see on a baby today. All name meanings were found on behindthename.com.)

1. Euna- number 1000 in 1880, possibly derived from Una meaning "lamb". It is not currently in the top 1000 for 2014.

2. Eulah- number 998 in 1880, it is a short form of Eulalia meaning "sweetly-speaking". It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.

3. Delina- number 982 in 1880, it is a feminine form of Delin and the meaning is unknown. It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.

4. Cleora- number 972 in 1880, possibly an elaboration of Cleo or Clara. Cleo is a short form of Cleopatra meaning "glory of the father". Clara means "clear, bright, famous". It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.

5. Wilma- number 942 in 1880, it is a short form of Wilhelmina, which is a feminine form of Wilhelm meaning "will, desire" and "helmet, protection". It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.

6. Verona- number 940 in 1880, it is a place name for the city in Italy with an unknown meaning. It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.

7. Theda- number 935 in 1880, it is a short form of Theodora, which is a feminine form of Theodore meaning "gift of God". It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014. 

8. Roena- number 922 in 1880, there is no name definition on behindthename, nameberry, and babynamewizard, but I would guess that it could be a variant of Rowena. It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.

9. Parthenia- number 916 in 1880, means "maiden, virgin" and it is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.

10. Lucina- number 896 in 1880, derived from Latin meaning "grove" but is now associated with the Latin word for light. It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.

11. Georgina- number 867 in 1880, it is a feminine form of George meaning "farmer, earthworker". It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.

12. Delphine- number 854 in 1880, it is a form of Delphina meaning "of Delphi". It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.

13. Araminta- number 842 in 1880, it has an unknown meaning and it is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.

14. Thea- number 827 in 1880, it is either a short form Dorothea or Theodora. Dorothea means "gift of God" and Theodora is a feminine form of  Theodore, which also means "gift of God". It is currently ranked at 776 in 2014.

15. Odelia- number 818 in 1880, it is a form of Odilia meaning "fatherland" or "wealth, fortune". It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.

16. Eudora- number 777 in 1880, means "good gift" and it is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.

17. Celestia- number 758 in 1880, it is a form of Celeste, which is a form of Caelestis meaning "of the sky, heavenly". It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.

19. Alverta- number 743 in 1880, it is a variant of Alberta, which is a feminine form of Albert meaning "noble" and "bright". It is currenly not in the top 1000 for 2014.

20. Delphia- number 689 in 1880, possibly from the name of the Greek city Delphi, which possibly means "womb". It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.

21. Irena- number 651 in 1880, it is a form of Irene, which is derived from a word meaning "peace". It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.

22. Elmina- number 643 in 1880, it is a short form of Wilhelmina, which is the feminine form of Wilhelm meaning "will, desire" and "helmet, protection". It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.

23. Ione- number 605 in 1880, means "violet flower" and it is currently not in the top 1000 for 2014.

My Favorite Names

Girls: 1. Briley- I have loved this name for several years. Over the years, my top ten girls' names have changed a lot but Briley has always been number one. I think I love it because it is not common, but it sounds familiar, which is the perfect combination to me. 2. Lavender- I love this name because it sounds feminine without sounding too girly, it is not common and my favorite color is purple. My only hesitation with the name is that it is maybe a little too out there for me. 3. Jane- This name is simple and beautiful and has a wonderful meaning. My mom's name is Jan, so Jane is my way of honoring her. 4. Wren- I always picture a really kind, smart, quietly beautiful girl with this name. I have no idea why I love it.
