Interesting/Uncommon Baby Names Through the Years: 1930

(This is a list of baby names I found on the top 1000 of the social security baby names' list. These names are name I think are uncommon, unheard of or are ready for a comeback, and I think would be interesting to see on a baby today. All name meanings were found on behindthename.com.)

1. Finis- number 983 in 1930, it means "end" in Latin. It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2015.
2. Madison- number 964 in 1930, it is from an English surname meaning "son of Maud" and Maud means "strength in battle". It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2015.
3. Clive- number 959 in 1930, it is from a surname meaning "cliff". It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2015.
4. Giles- number 819 in 1930, it means "young goat" and it is currently not in the top 1000 for 2015.
5. Benton- number 711 in 1930, it is from a surname meaning "town near bent grass". It is currently ranked 876 in 2015.
6. Stanford- number 608 in 1930, it is from a surname meaning "stone ford". It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2015.
7. Alford- number 582 in 1930, there is no meaning on behindthename.com, but several other name sites said that this is a surname. It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2015.
8. Marlin- number 314 in 1930, it is possibly a variant of Merlin meaning "sea fortress". It is currently not in the top 1000 for 2015.
9. Gilbert- number 90 in 1930, it means "bright pledge" and it is currently ranked 983 in 2015.

Favorites from Harry Potter

Boys: 1. Alastor - This is one of my favorite boys' names with a great character association. It means "avenger" in Greek and it is currently not in the top 1000 for 2015. 2. Name of the Week

Ursa Ursa is the name of two constellations: Ursa Major and Ursa Minor. It means "Bear" in Latin. Ursa has never been in the top 1000 in the United States.
